Also catches certain types of spyware and malware. Requires Java plugin. IE recommended. LavaSoft -- AdAware seeks out scumware/spyware/malware like a virus scan, identifies it, and marks it for deletion. Be careful, as this program may want to delete certain non-threatening programs like CometCursor. Spybot Search & Destroy -- Another spyware removal program to suppliment the scanning range of AdAware. Hijack This! -- A general homepage hijackers detector and remover. A very good diagnostic tool, but unless you are sure what you're doing, you should always consult with knowledgable folks (e.g. the forums) before deleting anything. Answers That Work -- Site features a very nice "task list" that identifies the processes running in the background on your computer, tells what programs they are associated with, and whether or not they can (or should be) be turned off. Defiler Pak -- a fairly all-inclusive Codex pack that contains the files to fix just about any video problem caused by out-of-date files or strange file types (like .OGM). BSplayer -- This is my favorite video player. Allows for softsubs and dual audio. Screencapture option. Plus it's a very slick-looking program. Nullsoft WinAmp -- The classic. Still my favorite after all these years. Many, many skins available for download, for whatever fits your mood.
